My presentation ~
In my presentation I
will talk about Rebecca Sugar: an American animator, director, screenwriter,
producer, songwriter and also designer. She is known for creating the Cartoon Network series
Steven Universe.
The presentation will
be divided into three parts: Early life, Career and my reasons to choose her.
Firstly I will explain
her early life:
She was born on July
9, 1987 at Silver Spring, Maryland, U.S. She has Jewish roots and is a
descendant of a Holocaust survivor. She studied at Montgomery Blair High School
and the Visual Arts Center at Albert Einstein High School. After that, she went
on to attend the School of Visual Arts in New York.
After I will talk about
her career:
During her time at the
School of Visual Arts, Sugar directed different animated films. She simultaneously worked to the cartoon's backgrounds and
characters of a cartoon series named nockFORCE.
In 2010, Sugar published a lot of comics and graphic novels with different
topics like sexual diversity, mental illness and other taboo matters. That
year, she also joined to the Adventure time crew as storyboard artist. Around 2012 she left Adventure
time in order to focus on her own series Steven Universe.
Finally I wil explain why I choose her and what is her relationship with the design.
In her works she a
common affair is the exposition of relevant taboo topics in cartoons as genre
equality and sexual diversity. Furthermore, through her own kids show she expects
to transmit a very important message just like a designer does; in conclusion,
that's why she is an inspiration and very important woman for me as professional
and designer.
I would like to know your work from the animation to deal with issues of gender equality and diversity
